- The slaveholder and notary named Giacomo de Palodio leases out an enslaved Circassian woman named Simona, who is approximately 26 years of age, to a merchant named Ambrogio Giustiniani, for a term of three years and total payment of 50 Genoese lire. The lease is for the purpose of wet nursing. The term of service had started a few weeks earlier on 11 March 1422. If the enslaved Simona is unable to provide adequate nursing for the family of Ambrogio, then he can return her and received an amount proportional to the unused time of service. The contract also states that Simona is strictly limited to caring for the child of Ambrogio and has no obligation to perform other tasks outside the household related to the child’s care and nourishment.
