The slaveholder and widow named Mariola de Turrilia, wife of the deceased Bartolomeo de Levante, leases out the enslaved Circassian named Maddalena, who is 28 years of age, to the noblewoman named Despina Pinelli, for a term of 12 years and total payment of 150 Genoese lire. Mariola is represented by the notary Lorenzo Costa who serves as her procurator. The contract states that if the enslaved Maddalena gives birth during the term of the lease then Despina is prohibited from allowing her to nurse the child. If Despina decides to sublease the enslaved Maddalena then Mariola has the option to take her back by paying a prorated amount based on the service time completed. The risk that Maddalena might die during the term of the lease is assumed by Despina and Mariola is not obliged to refund the lease price should this happen.
