Maddalena was an enslaved baptized Muslim born around the year 1476 and held captive in Genoa where she worked a servant in the household of Bernardo Grimaldi and Violante Cicala. She was liberated by Bernardo in 1499 under the condition that she serve in the household of Carlo Gentile for the next 12 years.
